it is a bit freaky indeed, more so than we really want to think. the latest organic nz magazine has an article about wifi in schools, & how parents who are concerned about the effects of wireless networks on their children are being pretty much totally ignored. until we really do know what the consequences are, people should have the right to protect their children from possible harmful situations.
meanwhile there is the intriguing unfolding of the wikileaks drama, where the mainstream media has completely focused on the mini-drama around julian assange at the expense of bradley manning. arrested on suspicion of being the original leaker, manning has been held in custody without trial since may, in solitary confinement since july, and who knows what other forms of human rights abuses he may be suffering. usa politicians are brazenly issuing public death threats against julian assange (please explain to me how this differs from fatwahs issued by muslim leaders?) and accusing assange and manning of having blood on their hands, yet the leaked documents show us the truth about usa soldiers’ shockingly casual disrespect of civilian lives in iraq and afghanistan. the blood is on the hands of the usa government.
i just hope that good things will come out of this, rather than increased controls & censorship, more secrecy & more torture. is it possible that politicians, administrators and army officials can choose to learn from these events … ??? or will we be left like the birds in this cartoon, the wires pulled out from under our feet?
