a week has passed since i arrived here at the villa waldberta, & it has been a very full week; the initial settling in & finding my way around, adventures to the german supermarkets in search of such rarities as tahini & tofu (success with one but not the other, at least i now have a good supply of hoummus!) and discovering the beer garden & the feldafing railway station. it's a 45 minute train ride into town, which isn't too bad, & the trains run late at night - the latest being 2.30am. i'm sharing the apartment with suzon & james who unfortunately have to go in to munich every day to rehearse; i get to hang out here & work, see the other artists who are in residency here, & go for bike rides along the lake.
on saturday, tamiko & peter took james & i out on their friend's yacht on the lake. starnberger see is a pretty big lake - i don't know how big, but there are at least 5 train stations down this side of it, & even with binoculars the other side is a long way away. but the water is beautifully clear & for an alpine lake, surprisingly warm. we swam off the side of the boat in the late afternoon sun, had a picnic on the boat, & as we returned to the marina in the dark, there were 3 separate fireworks displays to welcome us back to shore (i don't think it had anything to do with it being the 4th of july, the fireworks were just for us).
look, vicki, look!!!
the water was lovely ...
... & the sunset romantic.
but it hasn't all been plain sailing. i'm supposed to give a cyberformance workshop over the next 3 days - that's online performance - however the venue is very small with only 2 computers & a broken internet connection - making it a bit difficult to teach online! i've been exploring various possibilities & by chance last night at the oberburgermeister's kulturempfang, marlena introduced me to klaus from the münchner volkshochschule - an adult education centre run by the city, which has computer rooms ... tomorrow morning i'll find out whether we have a venue ... fingers crossed!
& i've been doing lots of other work as well - catching up on UpStage stuff mostly; the manual needs updating, rehearsals are starting for 090909, the installer package is ready ...
